As mobile communication devices, consumer electronics, car electronics, medical electronics, aviation, and military fields experience rapid growth, the global connector manufacturer industry has entered a golden age. Demand for connectors in the Asia Pacific region, where most of the products listed above are exported from, has continued to be high. This has attracted numerous foreign and domestic investors to focus their resources and promote rapid growth of the connector industry together.

Definition of a connector:

A connector, also known as an interface, plugin, plug and socket, mainly refers to electronic connectors. It acts as the connecting component between different electronic parts, such as a chip and circuit board, circuit board and circuit board, or a circuit board and box. The connector connects and transfers current and electronic signals.

Connector uses:

Currently, there are around 10,000 types of connectors on the market. Specific model numbers are different depending on each manufacturer. They can basically satisfy all application needs for current electronic connections. Connectors can effectively increase the quality and production quantity of different civilian and military products such as computers, peripherals, communications, mobile phones, televisions, digital cameras, game consoles, speakers, telephones, cars, medical equipment, aeronautics, and military hardware. It can also save production cost and save after-sales maintenance costs. This makes connectors very attractive to different major manufacturers.

Connector categories:

There are many ways to categorize connectors. They can be sorted into different types depending on different needs. 4 common categorization methods have been listed below:

1. Categorized according to the hierarchy of connectors:

Level 1: Device to packing: connection between IC chip and pin.

Level 2: Component lead to circuitry: connection between component and PC board.

Level 3: Board to board: connection between PC board and PC board.

Level 4: Subassembly to subassembly.

Level 5: Subassembly to I/O port

Level 6: System to system

2. Categorized according to the shape of connectors:

Round connectors: The connectors are cylindrical shaped. There is an insulator and one or more contacts on the shell.

Cone connector: The connectors are cone shaped. The cone shell has one or more contacts and insulator. Some connectors have wires and some have a protective layer.

Printed wiring connector: The connector is rectangular. The connector component and terminal wiring are welded, sealed, and perforated. It is mainly used for connections between printed circuit boards or between printed circuit boards and electronic device components.

High frequency coaxial connectors: Use for connections between high frequency coaxial cables or between high frequency coaxial cables and electronic equipment.

3. Categorized by connector structure:

Normal connector: Regular connector used under normal conditions indoors.

Temperature and water resistant connector: Special connector used outdoors, in high temperatures or in rainy conditions.

Environmentally resistant connector: Connectors that are heat and vibration resistant, mostly used in aeronautics or military applications.

Sealed connector.

Flame retardant connector.

Water pressure resistant connector: Mostly used in underwater or deep sea operations.

4. Categorized by connector application:

Communication connectors.

Information connectors.

Civilian connectors.

Aerospace connectors.

Military connectors.
