Despite being unfamiliar with the term “connector”, everyone knows about the item. One can deduce the meaning of the word and understand the item’s usage and basic applications. A connector is like a silent worker that quietly contributes to the functioning of many electronics around. It is not like a phone case or external component, in which one can see its stylish appearance. It only works silently and is hidden inside an electronic product. The components of connector manufacturers are intertwined with connector development; therefore there is a higher demand for connectors.

Firstly, connectors should become smaller. As electronic products become smaller, electronic components must also shrink. Therefore, miniaturization is the trend of connectors to make them fit in smaller products according to demand.

Secondly, the selection of connector material is dependent on the demand for miniaturization. Because connectors need to be small and should operate smoothly, the choice of material is crucial. Besides needing higher elasticity, the material should also be strong to satisfy all its functions.

There is also a demand for transfer speed. Society requires efficiency. Everyone likes to finish tasks quickly. Because of these requirements, data transfer speed must gradually increase. With faster transfer speed, more convenient services can be provided and the value of data is further displayed. Connector speed is a requirement of information and technological societies.

Lastly, quality is important. Data degradation which is a part of data transfer may even cause data loss. However, as technology develops, experts are gradually addressing this problem and minimizing loss to provide high quality images. For connector researchers, the most important is to study data transfer quality. Whether it be television, computers, or other audio-visual equipment, people have higher requirements. We used to be content with receiving a full signal but now, we keep asking for higher quality data to satisfy our sensory needs.
