Taiwan connector suppliers introduce some of the most common optical fiber connectors. The Square Connector (SC) and the Straight Tip (ST) connector are two types of the optical fiber connector. They connect different optical fibers. ST connects with 10Base-F; whereas SC connects with 100Base-FX. There is another significant difference between them. The core of the ST connector is exposed, but the core of the SC is inside the connector. Therefore, it is easy to tell the difference by their appearances. The outer covering of the SC connector is square, and the structure and size of the pin and coupling sleeve are exactly the same as the FC type (we will introduce this later). The end surface of the pin often uses the PC grinding method, while some of them use the APC grinding method. We always value the fastening method when it comes to connectors. Next let’s talk about FC connectors（Ferrule Connector）. Unlike SC connectors, it uses metal sleeve to strengthen outer covering and fasten with screw buckle. At first, FC connectors use the end surface of the ceramic pin as surface touching method（FC）. The advantages of this connector are:（1）Simple structure（2）Easy to use and manufacture. However, there is a disadvantage which is the end surface of the optical fiber connector is very sensitive to dust. It could easily cause the Fresnel reflection, making it more difficult to improve the return loss performance. This limits the production and application in life of the FC connector. Nevertheless, many scientists have made great efforts for improvement. Without changing the outer structure, the scientists use the pins with spherical end surfaces. This tiny change improves the insertion loss and return loss performance, which can be applied more widely.
