Performance of Taiwanese connector products

For the basic performance of connectors (such as Taiwan FPC connectors, USB connectors, etc.), it can be divided into two categories, one is mechanical performance, the other is electrical performance.

(1) Mechanical performance mainly refers to the plugging force and the number of times of plugging and if hot plugging is supported. And the plugging force can be divided into insertion force and pull-out force; both seem to share the same process, but the requirements are different. When plugging is conducted, it will directly contact with the internal structure of the connector, so the magnitude of the force and the largest number of contact affects the reliability of the contact. If the reliability is reduced, the performance of the connectors will be reduced consequently. The number of plugging slightly reflects how long the connectors could stand, which is related to the quality of the contacting parts, particularly the coating quality on the surface of the connectors. Generally speaking, the outer layer of the connector is coated with the most stable gold, and the thicker the gold layer, the more times it supports plugging. So many manufacturing companies start from this key point to improve the life and quality of their own connectors. Whether hot plugging is supported or not is also an important mechanical performance. It is because different types of connectors (such as Taiwan FPC connector, USB connector, etc.)has different  requirements and performance.

(2) Electrical performance refers to the performance of contact resistance, insulation resistance, parallel interference, signal delay and so on. In order to ensure the stability of the signals, the contact resistance of the connector must be stable. And to maintain high efficiency, the resistance must be low. In addition, the voltage drop at the contact point should not affect the accuracy of the circuit and signal transmission. Insulation resistance refers to the current transmission between connectors and other stuff, which is the response of the voltage difference between the inside and outside. If the insulation resistance is small, the side leakage current is relatively larger, which will affect the normal functioning of the circuit. Parallel interference refers to the mutual interference between two signal lines, which is an important feature for high-speed data transmission. As long as the current exists, there will be a magnetic field, and magnetic field will inevitably affect the transmission of another current, which will lead to data loss or error in the transmission process. This belongs to the loss of signal in the transmission process, which is the reason why the connector industry needs to improve continuously. So parallel interference is an important feature of transmission performance in connectors, general manufacturers usually reduce interference by changing the materials on the surface of connectors. Signal delay refers to the time required for the transmission process, which depends upon the quality of the transmission channels. Particularly in this era of efficiency, manufacturers should not only enhance the efficiency of their own production of connectors, but also enhance the efficiency of transmission signals for their products.

The performance of a connector is directly related to the quality of the connectors (such as FPC connector, USB connector, etc.), and is also important for the manufacturers concerning the innovation of their products. By replacing the materials used, changing the internal design structure, or adding other auxiliary materials to optimize performance, and amplifying the application areas, the product is innovated.
