The SFP connector has contributed to a fast internet connection, new business model and medical development. Despite the bright and prosperous vision behind the product, "information security" is also a major concern for future economic and political activities. The recent Twitter hacking incident related to information security has caught global attention.

In the afternoon of July 15, 2020, there was a serious information security breach in Twitter, a leading social networking service. Several individuals hacked into the Twitter account of US presidential candidate Joe Biden and sent out fake Bitcoin donations. Aside from Biden’s account, the accounts of many other famous people like Tesla CEO Elon Musk, business tycoon Warren Buffett, Microsoft founder Bill Gates and former US President Obama were also hacked. The incident sent shock waves across the world and the online community and led to an investigation by the U.S. government.

The Twitter hacking incident is considered a large-scale, high-end crime given the simultaneous cyber-attacks on the accounts of certain influential people. Although some of the victims tried to delete their posts and change their passwords, the hackers already gained initial access to a Twitter employee account and were able to proceed with taking over other high-profile accounts. It eventually took Twitter four hours to delete the fake messages manually. The motive behind the hacking is still unknown.  However, this breach is a very serious case that Twitter has to deal with given its millions of users worldwide. The hacking of internal employee information has cast doubts on Twitter’s security and received backlash from users worldwide, not to mention the U.S. government which has sent a letter of investigation to the director of Twitter, demanding the latter’s full cooperation with the FBI.

Why is "information security" important that laws should be enacted and severe penalties should be imposed?  In the case of Twitter, which holds the personal data of millions of users worldwide, any security breach could lead to unauthorized disclosure of private data and misuse for profit by certain entities. Aside from companies involved with social software, general companies are also regulated by the Information Security Law. If the information of users and customers are compromised, companies should be held legally liable. A minor personal data breach is caused by computer viruses through cyber-attacks like phishing, but a major consequence is leakage of national, strategic, political and economic confidential information.

As the reason behind this hacking incident has yet to be determined, people are made aware of issues such as "information warfare" or large-scale "ideological control", which the United States are currently investigating. The SFP Connector has led us to a global village with high-speed Internet, but behind the technological developments are other serious concerns that all Internet users should focus on as well.
