QSFP28 Connector: the 5G Broadband Network Era

            Taiwan's telecom companies announced in early 2020 that they would launch a 5G upgrade plan starting from July 2020. When it comes to 5G broadband high-speed network, we have to mention the important soul figure of "QSFP28 connector". Compared with the "SFP + connector" used in 4G broadband high-speed network, it has four times data transportation channels, and it only takes 3.6 seconds to download a two-hour movie, attracting many enterprises and individual consumers.

            The frequency band of the 5G spectrum also represents different meanings. 28GHz is a high frequency band, which is currently the highest transmission rate with a low delay, and is suitable for commercial use such as for the Internet of Things and medical technology. 3.5GHz is a medium frequency band, which is also the main signal coverage area. It supports various kinds of terminal equipment, which can be matched with the high frequency band to enable 5G to achieve the highest network speed and usage efficiency. For most users, the most important thing is the use of the "3.5GHz" frequency band. Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile, Far EasTone and Taiwan Star have respectively obtained the 3.5GHz frequency band and have successively introduced payment schemes.

            At the beginning of this year, the three telecom giants have successively introduced the "5G Experience Sim Card", to enable consumers to experience the high speed of 5G. A YouTuber also measured the 5G upload and download speeds of Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile and Far EasTone. Although the speed of the three companies is also poor in different regions, Chunghwa Telecom is better in some places and Far EasTone is faster in some places, but on the whole, the 5G of the three telecom companies has performed well.

However, who needs to upgrade to 5G? The QSFP28 Connector Extension column mentions that, as for the three major characteristics of 5G high-speed network, namely "fast speed", "low delay" and "wide connection", the first two characteristics are more suitable for electronic competition players and personnel who need to upload and download a large number of files, drawings or audio and video files frequently. If you want to use 5G network abroad, you also need to pay attention to the different frequency bands supported by each country, which is also a major restriction to implement the 5G network upgrade scheme now. However, due to the diversity of functions of the Internet as well as the increased demand for use, the development prospect is promising. A number of mobile phone manufacturers in the world also expect to launch mobile phones supporting 5G network functions by the end of 2020.
